The hyper Rayleigh and hyper Raman spectra of the following Group IV halides are reported: the liquids CCl 4 , CHCl 3 , CH 2 Cl 2 , CHBr 3 , CH 2 Br 2 , CH 3 Br, SiCl 4 , GeCl 4 and SnCl 4 and CBr 4 in solution in CCl 4 . Relative hyper Rayleigh and hyper Raman intensities and depolarization ratios have been measured. These are discussed and the intensities compared with those observed in Raman and infrared spectra.
