A convincing assignment of the bands in the ν 1 and 2ν 2 internal mode region of the Raman spectrum of single crystals of KN 3 has been obtained. The Fermi resonances of the main (14, 14, 14) isotopic species of N   3 −and the two rare isotopic species, (14, 15, 14) and (15, 14, 14) have been analysed in detail. The temperature and pressure dependence of the Raman spectrum have been measured, and values of dν/d p calculated for the theoretically non‐resonating ν 1 and 2ν 2 levels.
