Abstract Raman scattering from single crystals of ammonium sulphamate have been recorded in the region 30–3400 cm −1 with He‐Cd laser excitation. The libratory and translatory modes observed in all the six polarizations were assigned. The assignment of internal modes of ammonium ion indicates minimum distortion of the ion from the tetrahedral symmetry. The presence of medium hydrogen bonding and the range of correlation field splitting are discussed.
