In a previous publication 7 we have outlined a theory for continuum resonance Raman scattering in diatomics using irreducible spherical tensors. In the present paper we apply this theory to the halogen molecules 79 Br 2 and 127 I 2 and compare numerical calculations of the band profile of fundamental and overtones to experimentally obtained continuum resonance Raman spectra of these molecules.
