The apparent vapor transport of O 2 AsF 6 by sublimation at modest temperatures is shown to proceed via the reversible reaction, O 2 + AsF 6 − ⇄O 2 F ˙ + AsF 5 , involving a free radical mechanism. This reaction path is in marked contrast to the vapor transport of O 2 PtF 6 , O 2 RuF 6 and O 2 RhF 6 species which proceed via dissociation and recombination with charge transfer, O 2 + PtF 6 − ⇄O 2 + PtF 6 .
