Infrared and Raman spectra were obtained for meso ‐2,3‐dibromo‐1,4‐dichlorobutane in the solid state and in solution. Only one conformation is present in the solid, it being one with a center of symmetry (all carbons and chlorines coplanar, bromines on opposite sides of that plane). The other two stable conformers are present to a small extent in solution. A vibrational assignment of the solid state bands is proposed.
