Relative fluxes of transmitted and backscattered Raman (inelastic) and also Rayleigh plus macroscopically (elastic) scattered radiation from powdered samples pressed to discs have been measured as a function of the thickness of the discs. Specular reflection is the biggest source of error and must be avoided in such measurements. The resulting curves are in qualitative accordance with calculations by other authors.
