A multichannel spectrometer with photoelectric image devices, interfaced with a data acquisition and handling system, permits temporal analysis of Raman spectra. This system enables rapid kinetic studies to be made. The fast oxidation of sulphite ion by bromate ion in an acid medium (0.46 N) is given as an example. The rate of disappearance of the bromate ion has been determined and shows an important hydrogen ion dependence.
