The Raman spectra of gaseous and solid bis(trifluoromethyl)peroxide, (CF 3 ) 2 O 2 , have been recorded from 20 to 1300 cm −1 . The infrared spectrum of the solid has been investigated from 35 to 1300 cm −1 . The far infrared spectrum of the gaseous phase was recorded from 20 to 250 cm −1 . A reassignment of the low frequency fundamentals has been made. Both CF 3 torsional modes have been observed in the solid and at least one in the gaseous phase. The barrier to internal rotation of the CF 3 top has been calculated to have a value of 0.73 kcal mol −1 in the gaseous phase.
