The vibrational Raman spectra of a number of soap‐water systems (water content range 0–90%) over the temperature range 0–150°C are reported. Changes in the Raman spectra with temperature can be interpreted in terms of structural changes, particularly of the conformations of the paraffin chains. The results suggest that Raman spectroscopy is potentially useful for the study of the more complex lipid‐protein‐water systems that constitute biological membranes and for which these soap‐water systems serve as simple models.
