Raman spectra and lattice dynamics of the halogen cyanide crystals

Raman spectra of polycrystalline samples of ClCN, BrCN and ICN have been recorded at 79 K and 18 K. The observed frequencies are compared with those obtained from lattice dynamics calculations on these linear‐chain crystals. Spectral dependence on crystallite‐size in ICN and isotope effects in all three crystals are also briefly discussed.
