The complete set of fundamental frequencies of NaIO 4 (tetragonal crystals) has been determined. Raman spectra of NaIO 4 , 3H 2 O (trigonal crystals) show that the structure proposed by Burgers is erroneous; a more plausible one is suggested. The angular dispersion of the polar phonons was also studied.
