The vibrational spectra of norbornadiene (NBD) and (NBD) M (CO) 4 ( M Cr, Mo, W) have been investigated in detail for the first time. Partial vibrational assignments have been made for all four molecules with particular attention being paid to the C H, CO, C C, and M ‐olefin stretching modes and the δ(CH 2 ) bending modes. From the spectroscopic data, it appears that the C 2ν geometry of the norbornadiene ligand is little affected by coordination.
