Aim: To describe the introduction and expansion of the support roles of a pharmacy technician in an acute‐care private hospital. Process: Additional responsibilities to support the Pharmacistin‐ Charge included: administrative roles, pharmacy committee secretarial tasks, assistance with financial reporting, inventory checking and maintaining a technician's operating manual. Outcomes: The new tasks have been included into departmental procedures and have led to improved job satisfaction due to increased variety of tasks and enhanced recognition of skills. Conclusion: Additional support roles for pharmacy technicians could be considered in other private hospitals. This could be enhanced by a uniform work classification and continuing education support.
