In this article, the authors address the impact of current cultural pressures on the counseling field and how they threaten to marginalize core humanist tenets. In particular, the authors examine 2 ways the field has reacted to cultural pressures, review early humanist philosophers' dire concerns over these same practices, and discuss implications for the field moving forward.
