The stakeholders' approach to engaging in sustainable development and corporate social responsibility has widespread appeal. Although sustainability reports and report guidelines make ample reference to stakeholders, little is said about how to actually and practically use the stakeholders' approach. The Responsible Management Network, a group of 12 international companies of varying sizes, devoted a two‐day meeting to reviewing and discussing stakeholder mapping. After analyzing existing tools and experiences, they were presented with a practical method for including and managing stakeholders when dealing with organizational issues and challenges. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
