In this work we have analysed the mean, maximum, and minimum temperature records of five localities in the northern Spanish Plateau during the last century. We have used the short‐cut Bartlett test to examine their homogeneity. Our main proposal is the detection of trends and abrupt changes, using the Mann‐Kendall test and the estimation of the magnitude of these. We have found that the minimum and mean temperatures have increased. The maxima do not present special behaviour. So the minimum temperatures show more influence over the mean temperatures than the others. Briefly, we have studied the possible linkage between the increase of minimum temperatures and urban growth in the area studied.
