This paper examines some of the oldest instrumental records in Spain. They cover the period 1789 to 1816 for the Cádiz region and reveal strong evidence of a significant and approximately quantifiable degree of warming since those times. In contrast to the middle latitudes, greater temperature increases have occurred during the summer months. Wind records also indicate that the general circulation may have been more meridional than today.
