2‐N‐hydroxy‐3,4‐dihydro‐isoquinoline‐1‐one (C 9 H 9 NO 2 , 1) was isolated as a new naturally occurring iron chelator from cultures of Streptomyces spec. 2002‐104 in the course of a screening for new iron chelating compounds. The structure was solved by high resolution MS and NMR investigations.
