In an Ancylobacter species an acetyl‐CoA‐activated phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase was found. The specific activity in methylotrophic growth (26 nmol min −1 mg −1 ) is greater than in heterotrophic nutrition (10 nmol min −1 mg −1 ). Pyruvate carboxylase could not be detected either in methanol‐ or in glucose‐grown cells.
