A new yeast, Candida mucifera , isolated from livers of anurans in the forest of Amazonia, is described. This species differs from all recently accepted Candida species in its morphological and physiological properties and in the fact that in sugar liquid media it produces a large quantity of extracellular polysaccharide that is of a gelatinous consistency.
