Streptomycetes are well known to have a very versatile secondary metabolism, producing not only 80% of antibiotics used but also a variety of siderophores, plant hormones or biocontrol agents. The filamentous growth of the Gram‐positive bacteria leads to colony morphologies resembling those of fungi. (Foto: Götz Haferburg, Jena, Germany)
