Strains of the fungus Aspergillus niger (Tiegh.) were isolated from a non‐contaminated floodplain forest and from areas with arsenic contamination. The mycelial morphology of an Aspergillus niger isolate from soil of the floodplain forest, in the area of Kralovska meadow, Slovakia, was compared to those found in the polluted environment. The culture was grown in Czapek‐Dox agar on which it formed typical dark brown colonies which developed into maturing conidia (× 750). (Foto: Alexandra Šimonovicová, Bratislava, Slovakia)
