Gymnoascus reesii degrades tomatidine after 120 h to products no more detectable by TLC. The intermediates, produced after 48 h of incubation, were identified as tomatanin‐3α‐ol, tomatidone, 4‐tomatiden‐3‐one, 1‐tomatiden‐3‐one, 1,4‐tomatadien‐3‐one, and probably 15 β‐hydroxytomatidone. The possible degradation pattern of tomatidine by Gymnoascus reesii is discussed.
