This paper presents the problem of modelling the linear three‐terminal monolithic positive‐voltage regulators belonging to the MA7800 family with self‐heating taken into account. The new electrothermal compact macromodel of the considered family of devices has been proposed by the authors. This macromodel was implemented to SPICE with the use of the ABM option. The proposed macromodel was verified experimentally for the MA7805 regulator and a good agreement between the calculation and measurement results was obtained. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
