Abstract In this paper, the application of the transmission line modelling method (TLM) to acoustic problems is considered. The formal coupling of a parallel and three series circuits is used to present a new three‐dimensional symmetrical condensed node for acoustics. Some considerations about the analogy, field excitation, and different boundary conditions are also included. Finally, examples are given demonstrating the suitability of the proposed TLM node to describe acoustic phenomena. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
