This paper deals with an extension and improvement of the PML‐TLM algorithm first proposed by Dubard and Pompei. The approach is first extended to advanced nodes (hybrid SCN and super‐SCN). Then its efficiency in the presence of evanescent waves is improved. As a result, stability is also improved. Finally, the algorithm is applied to the characterization of a new class of patch antennas and validated by the measurement. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
