An approach for numerically integrating the partial differential equations describing passive physical systems consists in modelling the continuous‐domain physical system by means of a passive discrete‐domain system. As has recently been shown, this can be achieved, in particular also for Maxwell's equations, by means of the same principles as known from multidimensional wave digital filters, which offers a number of important advantages. The present paper deals specifically with the application of the approach to Maxwell's equations and supplements corresponding results previously published.
