This paper presents an overview of the 3D transmission‐line matrix method of analysis, describing the various nodes which are available to date: expanded node, asymmetrical condensed node, symmetrical condensed node. The most general scattering matrices of these nodes are given. The various techniques used to implement irregularly graded meshes are also described. A comparison of all the processes applied to the same structure is made. Conclusions on their use are then discussed.
