Cover illustration. The cover image shows the head of a larval Protanyderus spec. , a representative of the ancestral dipteran Tanyderidae. The image is a sagittally sectioned reconstruction with foregut, muscles and brain. In this study by Wipfler et al. (pp. 968–980) a detailed documentation of the head structures using innovative morphological methods, especially μ‐computer tomography combined with 3D reconstruction, is presented and the morphological data are used to solve a long standing phylogenetic problem of basal relationship among Diptera.
