The segmental muscles in the intestinal region of the body of Hermodice carunculata are described as well as the gross anatomy of the associated nervous system. The form of normal locomotion and the characteristic alarm reaction are described and interpreted in terms of fluid pressure within the body cavity and the action of appropriate groups of segmental muscles. Brief remarks on the habits of H. carunculata conclude the paper.
