p‐Aminoclonidine hydrochloride 1 was converted to m‐dibromo‐p‐iodoclonidine 3 and the latter was used as a precursor to prepare [phenyl‐ 3 H] clonidine hydrochloride 4 at high specific activity via a selective catalytic dehalogenation with tritium. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
