The synthesis of seven deuteriopyrimidines of high isotopic purity was effected either by reductive dechlorination of chloropyrimidines with deuterium on a Pd/CaCO 3 catalyst, deuterolysis of sulfonylhydrazinopyrimidines with mild base in D 2 O or oxidation of hydrazinopyrimidines with silver acetate.
