From 18 O 2 as starting material H 2 18 O 2 cannot be obtained in a concentration which is sufficient for the synthesis of many amine oxides. Ba 18 O 2 synthesized from 18 O 2 by a method of Anbar is suitable for the direct oxidation of many amines in glacial acetic acid. The method is demonstrated by the syntheses of the amine oxides of several amines of different basicities with non‐labelled BaO 2 in the mMol scale. The synthesis of 18 O‐N,N‐dimethylaniline oxide—yield 40% from 0,65 mMol Ba 18 O 2 —is described in detail.
