The triphenylphosphine hydrobromide‐catalyzed addition of a proton from ethanol to anhydrodihydroartemisinin ( 5 ) has been employed for the synthesis of 2 and 4 Use of 1.5 equivalents of EtO 2 H or EtO 3 H yielded 11‐[ 3 H]‐β‐arteether as the major product.
