The synthesis of [4,4,4‐ 2 H 3 ]butanoic acid with 10% yield from deuterated acetic acid is described. The structure is confirmed by n.m.r. and mass spectroscopy and the percentage of labelling is established as >98.5% [ 2 H 3 ]butanoic acid.
