Synthetic procedures for tritiation of a retinodal benzoic acid derivative, (E)‐4‐[2‐(5,6,7,8‐tetrahydro‐5,5,8,8‐tetramethyl‐2‐naphthalenyl‐6,7‐ 3 H 2 )‐1‐propenyl]‐benzoic acid, (TTNPB), are described. Tritium was introduced by catalytic hydrogenation. The final product, TTNPB‐ 3 H 2 (9), had a specific activity of 24.1 Ci/mmole and a radiochemical purity of 95.6%.
