1‐demethylcolchicine obtained by selective demethylation of colchicine was condensed with ( 14 C) CH 3 I to gave (1‐methoxy 14 C) colchicine 4 . After two purifications by silicagel column chromatography 4 was obtained in a 40% yield from ( 14 C) CH 3 I and a radiochemical purity of 99% (specific activity : 57 mCi/mmole).
