The dilithium tetrachlorocuprate catalyzed reaction of Grignard reagents with long chain alkyl p‐toluenesulfonates provides specifically labelled dideuteromethylene hydrocarbons. The tosylate esters are readily obtained by LiAID 4 treatment of fatty acid methyl esters followed by tosylation in pyridine.
