Chloral‐1,2‐ 14 C hydrate was prepared by direct chlorination of labeled acetaldehyde in an overall 47% radiochemical yield. The reaction was carried out without a catalyst by heating at one temperature in a single stage reaction. No lower chloroacetaldehydes were detected.
