We prepared deuterium‐labeled 5‐deoxystrigol (5DS), a multifunctional plant second metabolite, using a simple set of procedures. The labeled compound contained mainly [3a,4,4,5,5,6′‐D 6 ]‐5DS and [D 5 ]‐5DS and did not contain unlabeled 5DS. Therefore, multideuterated 5DS can be used as an internal standard in liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) assays to quantitate the amounts of 5DS in plants and root exudates.
