This report describes the preparation of carbon‐14 labeled dibutyltin dichloride from carbon‐14 labeled barium carbonate in 30% overall radiochemical yield. The key steps were (a) the preparation of carbon‐14 labeled butyl bromide from carbon‐14 labeled barium carbonate via carbon‐14 labeled butyl mesylate, and (b) the direct preparation of tetrabutyltin by the lithium‐mediated reaction of dibutyltin dichloride with carbon‐14 labeled butyl bromide.
