When we undertook the editorship of this journal in July 1995, few of us realized how quickly online publishing was going to flourish. In only three years, a number of the scientific journals we read today are online with the full text of their articles. We therefore made arrangements with Cadmus Journal Services to publish an on‐line version of JLB concurrent with the print version prepared by the Mack Printing Group.
