Acetophthalidin [(±)‐3‐acetyl‐5,7‐dihydroxyphthalide ( 1 )] was synthesized from 6,8‐diacetoxy‐3‐methylisocoumarin ( 8 ) by its epoxidation followed by hydrolysis.
