Abstract As a result of the extension of our screening to strains of Chondromyces four new antifungal and highly cytostatic depsipeptides were isolated, the chondramides A ( 1 ) – D ( 4 ). Their macrocyclic structures comprise three amino acids and a polyketide, viz. alanine, N ‐methyltryptophan, α‐methoxyl‐β‐tyrosine, and a 7 ‐hydroxytrimethyloctenoic acid. Thus, they were found to be closely related to a small class of cyclodepsipeptides including jaspamide, the geodiamolides, and neosiphoniamolide which all have been isolated from marine sponges.
