The glycosphingolipid (GSL) composition of the marine sponge Agelas conifera was investigated. In addition to three GSLs previous isolated from Agelas clathrodes ( 2a‐4a ), the novel α‐glycosylceramide 1a was isolated as a major component of the GSL mixture, and its structure was elucidated by extensive NMR studies and by chemical analysis.
