A specimen of the marine sponge Agelas longissima was analyzed for glycosphingolipids. Three cerebrosides 1a ‐ 3a were isolated, each as a mixture of homologs. The structure of the new glycosphingolipid 1a was elucidated by extensive NMR studies of its peracetate derivative and chemical analysis. Compound 2a , previously isolated from another specimen of A. longissima , exhibits in the new specimen a remarkably different alkyl chain composition.
