The marine sponge Agelas clathrodes was analyzed for gly‐cosphingolipids, and four cerebrosides ( 1a ‐ 4a ) were isolated, each as a mixture of homologs. The structure of the new glycosphingolipid 1a was elucidated by extensive NMR studies of its peracetate and by chemical analysis. The presence of unusual α‐glycosphingolipids in sponges of the genus Agelas was confirmed.
