The synthesis of spirofused 2‐thioxopyridines 3 from benzoyl(thioacetanilides) 1 and cyclohexylidenemalononitrile ( 2 ) is described. Cyclopentylidene‐ and cycloheptylidenemalononitrile do not react with 1 . Heating of 1 in the presence of piperidine yields thiazoles 4 . The structure of 4a has been established by an X‐ray analysis.
