Ascorbic acid ( 1a ), the 6‐benzoate and 6‐palmitate ester ( 1b, c ) were oxidized by iodine both in D 2 O and in [D 6 ]DMSO solution. The reactions were followed by 13 C‐NMR spectroscopy. It was shown for the 6‐esters 1b , c , that, with the exclusion of water, monomeric dehydroascorbic acid esters 6b , c could be detected.
